The third edition of the IP Youth Scoreboard provides an update on the bahaviours of young people aged 15 to 24 across the European Union regarding IPR infringement.

The survey examines the two aspects of IP infringement: young people's trends in buying counterfeit goods and accessing pirated content, assessing trends every three years since 2016.

A RESPECT debate was held on 10 June on the theme "Online piracy: responsibility and response. Benefits for the creator and the user". The debate was organized by the Hellenic Copyright Organization (HCO) and ELSA Athens in the framework of the RESPECT programme of the European Union.

On Wednesday 18th of May 2022, representatives of the HCO visited the Music School of Athens in response to the invitation of the school director Mr. Kapetanakis.

During the visit, the HCO lawyer, Mrs. M. Sinanidou, talked to the teachers of the school about the work of the HCO, the law of intellectual property and the importance of its respect, with particular emphasis on the field of lifelong learning but also on the digital environment.

The topic for this year’s Intellectual Property Day (IP Day) by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is “IP and Youth: Innovating for a better future”.

The topic that the Hellenic Copyright Organization (HCO) has chosen for this year is “Youth and Protection of IP” and its aim is to encourage the use of legal sources for streaming and downloading of music, movies, TV series, sports events, books, etc. online.

On Thursday 14 April 2022, the HCO participated in a seminar for the kindergarten teachers of the Municipality of Fthiotida. The seminar took place at the Livanates Kindergarten and was organized after an invitation of the Head of the Livanates Kindergarten Ms. M. Tsiahri.

During the visit, the lawyer-scientific associate of the HCO, Mrs. Maria G. Sinanidou, talked to the kindergarten teachers about the work of the HCO, the importance of copyright protection as well as the avoidance of actions that infringe copyright with an emphasis on the digital environment.

The online public vote to select the winners of the World IP Day Video Competition is now open. You have until April 22 to cast your vote.

The competition has attracted entries from 63 countries. The World Intellectual Property Organization is inviting you to look at these entries and select the top ones.

On Friday 18th March 2022, the HCO visited the 1st High School of Voula in response to the invitation of the school teacher Mrs. I. Gardiki.

During the visit, the HCO lawyer, Mrs. Eva Moustaka, talked to the teachers of the school about the work of the HCO, the importance of copyright protection as well as the avoidance of actions that infringe copyright with an emphasis on the digital environment. The event was attended by other schools’ teachers via Webex.

According to an EUIPO study published in 2021, online piracy slows down but Europeans still access pirate content 6 times a month on average.

On Thursday, March 3rd 2022, the HCO organized an educational webinar for the students of the 1st and 7th High Schools of Katerini.

The lawyer-scientific associate of the HCO, Mrs. Maria G. Sinanidou, talked to the students of the second grade about the work of the HCO, the importance of copyright protection as well as the avoidance of actions that infringe copyright with an emphasis on the digital environment.

Through our project RESPECT, we invite you to create and send us an original video, promoting the use of legal sources online in relation to cultural content such as movies, music, software, books, videogames etc. The aim of RESPECT project is to raise awareness on respecting copyright and thus supporting the creators and artists.

The EUIPO published the FAQs on Copyright for Teachers for use by teachers and students in the European Union.

The 15 questions aim to provide teachers and students with clear and accurate information on uses of protected content allowed in the context of education and training, in particular online. In addition, teachers will become aware of the opportunities copyright protection offers them, as potential creators of works within the context of education.

On Tuesday 01 February 2022, the HCO continuing its cooperation with the 2nd Experimental High School of Athens and in response to the invitation of the school teacher Mrs. S. Pashaliori, visited the school for a second time.

During the two hour visit, the lawyer-scientific associate of the HCO, Mrs. Maria G. Sinanidou, talked to the students of the third grade about the work of the HCO, the importance of copyright protection as well as the avoidance of actions that infringe copyright with an emphasis on the digital environment.

The European Commission is proposing to the European Parliament and Council to sign up to a declaration of rights and principles that will guide the digital transformation in the EU.

The draft declaration on digital rights and principles aims to give everyone a clear reference point about the kind of digital transformation Europe promotes and defends. It will also provide a guide for policy makers and companies when dealing with new technologies.
