By decision of the IEP Board of Directors, the Hellenic Copyright Organization’s skills lab program titled “Copyright in our Lives” was approved.
The programme is part of the sub-theme “STEM – Educational Robotics” of the theme “Creating and Innovating – Creative Thinking and Initiative”.
It includes seven (7) workshops with the following titles: “Becoming a creator”, “Red thread tied…”, “A theatre for all”, “Distinction between material/intangible property”, “Who is protected by copyright?”, “Marcos wants to study music” and “World Intellectual Property Day (26 April)”.
It is addressed to students in the fifth grade of primary school and each workshop has a duration of one (1) teaching hour.
The skills lab aims to raise awareness among children of the importance of copyright protection in modern society and the digital environment, to contribute to the development of positive attitudes and behaviours towards intellectual creation and to help develop healthy habits of Internet use, avoiding piracy and choosing legal sources of content. It can work as a complement to the 5th grade curriculum by taking a cross-curricular approach to the arts and provide a practical and enjoyable learning experience which is linked to the development of various skills such as learning and social life.
The accompanying educational material consists of a) Copyright Handbook for teachers, b) Copyright Handbook for primary school, c) Worksheets for children and d) Evaluation questionnaires and is sufficiently detailed and appropriate for the age group targeted.
