Educational seminars in Cyprus: «Copyright and related rights: application in education and new technologies»

The Hellenic Copyright Organization (HCO) and the online portal Sigma Live organized educational seminars in Cyprus, on the 6th, 7th and 8th of February 2020 about copyright and related rights and their application in education and new technologies. The seminars took place in Famagusta Paphos, Limassol, Nicosia and Larnaka.

The seminars were organized in the framework of the European Programme «Educating youngsters and secondary school teachers about copyright in Greece and Cyprus», which id co-funded by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

The events were realized under the auspices of the Pedagogical Institute of Cyprus and were supported by the Directorate of Medium General Education of the Ministry of Education of Cyprus.

Printed educational material that has been created by the HCO was distributed to the attendants. Additionally, reference was made to online sources where teachers can access useful educational content.

Mr. Christos Michalaros, poet, lyricist and journalist participated in the seminars of Paphos and Nicosia while Mr. Michalis Karakatsanis, musician and administrator of the Centre of Musical Information of Cyprus made an intervention in Limassol. Authors shared with the audience their personal experience on how copyright protection is vital for culture and arts.

The afore mentioned programme aims to raise awareness among teachers and pupils of secondary education about the importance of copyright protection in modern society and its role as a key factor for the promotion of creativity and culture.
